FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

✈️ Before Arrival
1. When should I arrive in Nysa?
We recommend arriving 2–3 days before the Orientation Week to settle in and complete administrative formalities.
2. Do I need a visa?
Students from non-EU countries may require a visa. Please contact the nearest Polish Embassy or Consulate well in advance.
3. Do I need health insurance?
Yes. EU students should bring a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Non-EU students must have private health insurance covering their entire stay.
4. Can I arrive late?
Yes, but only with prior approval from your faculty coordinator and the International Cooperation Office.

🏡 Accommodation
5. Is student accommodation guaranteed?
Accommodation in the university dormitory is offered subject to availability. We recommend applying as early as possible.
6. Can I rent a private apartment?
Yes. The ICO can provide useful information and recommended websites.
7. What should I bring to the dormitory?
Basic kitchen utensils, towels, toiletries, and personal items. Bedding is usually provided.

🎓 Academic Matters
8. How do I choose my courses?
Courses are selected in consultation with your home university and academic coordinator through the Learning Agreement.
9. Can I change my Learning Agreement?
Yes. Changes are possible during the first weeks of the semester and require approval from both universities.
10. What is the grading system?
PANS in Nysa uses the Polish grading scale from 2.0 to 5.0 together with ECTS grades.
11. How many ECTS credits should I take?
Normally Erasmus students take approximately 30 ECTS credits per semester.
12. Is attendance compulsory?
Yes. Regular attendance is expected and may be required for course completion.

📄 Documents
13. When will I receive my Certificate of Arrival?
The document can be issued after completing your registration at the International Cooperation Office.
14. When will I receive my Transcript of Records?
After all grades have been entered by the lecturers, usually within several weeks after the examination period.
15. Can you sign my Erasmus documents?
Yes. The International Cooperation Office signs documents related to your mobility.

💶 Money & Living Costs
16. What currency is used in Poland?
Poland uses the Polish Złoty (PLN).
17. Can I pay by card?
Yes. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted.
18. How much money do I need each month?
Depending on your lifestyle, approximately €500–800 per month.

🚍 Transport
19. How do I get to Nysa?
The nearest international airports are Wrocław, Katowice and Kraków. Nysa is easily accessible by train and bus.
20. Is public transport free for students?
Discounts are available for students with a valid student ID.

📱 Everyday Life
21. Where can I buy a SIM card?
SIM cards are available at mobile operator stores, supermarkets and shopping centres.
22. Is Wi-Fi available on campus?
Yes. Free Wi-Fi is available in university buildings and student dormitories.
23. Can I work during my Erasmus stay?
EU citizens generally have the right to work in Poland. Non-EU students should check their visa and residence permit conditions.

24. What should I do in an emergency?
Call 112, the European emergency number.
25. Where can I see a doctor?
The ICO will help you find a medical centre if needed.
26. Who should I contact if I have problems?
Contact the International Cooperation Office or your Erasmus coordinator immediately.

🌍 Student Life
27. Is there a TUTOR/Buddy Programme?
Yes. International students can be matched with local student volunteers.
28. Are there student clubs?
Yes. You can join sports teams, scientific clubs, cultural organisations and volunteer groups.
29. Will I receive information about events?
Yes. Follow our social media and check your university email regularly.

📅 End of Mobility
What should I do before leaving?
30. Before departure, make sure you:

  • return library books, 
  • settle any dormitory payments, 
  • collect your Certificate of Stay, 
  • complete the Erasmus survey, 
  • ensure your Transcript of Records has been requested.
