25 Years of Development, Over 2,000 Students and International Success. University of Applied Sciences in Nysa Inaugurates the New Academic Year!
It was an exceptional inauguration, marking not only the beginning of a new academic year but, above all, the 25th anniversary of the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa (UAS in Nysa). On 9 October 2026, representatives of academia, national and local authorities, the business community, and partner universities from Poland and abroad gathered at the Nysa Cultural Centre to celebrate a quarter-century of an institution that has become an integral part of the city and the region.
From five degree programmes and its first cohorts of students to a modern university offering 25 fields of study, cooperating with nearly 200 universities in 50 countries and more than 100 companies and institutions – this is the journey UAS in Nysa has made since 2001. Over the past 25 years, more than 16,000 graduates have completed their studies at the University.
More than 2,000 students are beginning the 2026/2027 academic year, including over 1,000 newly admitted first-year students. This year's recruitment results were 20% higher than in the previous year. Medical programmes attracted particularly strong interest, with up to six applicants competing for a single place. The University continues to expand its educational offer. This year, Applied Linguistics and Tactical Rescue were introduced, along with new specialisations in areas including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and national security.
The anniversary provided an opportunity to reflect on the University's achievements and present its plans for the future. In his address, the Rector emphasised the importance of the people who have contributed to building the University's position over the past 25 years, expressing gratitude to its leadership, academic and administrative staff, students, and partners supporting its development.
International cooperation holds a particularly important place among the University's achievements. In 2026, UAS in Nysa secured more than EUR 550,000 in Erasmus+ funding, achieving the highest result among Poland's 31 public universities of applied sciences and the second-highest result in the Opole Voivodeship.
This success translates into tangible opportunities for students and staff. During the 2025/2026 academic year, the University completed 215 student mobilities, compared with just 50 two years earlier. Students gain international experience in countries including the United States and Mexico, while young people from around the world come to study in Nysa. The most recent edition of the University's international summer school brought together nearly 100 students from 22 countries.
The past 25 years have also been marked by significant developments in infrastructure and project activities. The University has successfully secured external funding for educational, training and investment projects. Projects currently underway have a combined value exceeding PLN 8 million. Its facilities include a Medical Simulation Centre, modern laboratories and an athletics stadium. The sports complex on Kraszewskiego Street is also being expanded, with a new Student Activity Centre under construction. More than 100 active cooperation agreements with companies and institutions help the University effectively combine academic education with professional practice.
Students and graduates have also provided many reasons for pride. The University once again secured second place among public universities of applied sciences in the Polish Academic Sports Championships, while its women's volleyball team won bronze in the overall national classification across all higher education institutions.
One of the key moments of the inauguration ceremony was the matriculation of first-year students, alongside the presentation of state honours to University employees. The anniversary celebration also featured a lecture by Dr hab. Beata Giblak entitled “Educational and Cultural Traditions of Nysa”, as well as a performance by the University Academic Choir.
The 25-year history of UAS in Nysa is a story of people, ideas, challenges and continuous development. It also demonstrates that a university deeply rooted in its city and region can successfully operate on the international stage and open up opportunities for students far beyond national borders.
The anniversary inauguration served as both a symbolic celebration of a quarter-century of achievements and the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa.
