Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme at the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa

From 22 June to 3 July 2026, the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa hosted an international Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme entitled “The Social Art of Language – Communication Skills through Storytelling and Drama”. The programme was implemented under Erasmus+ project no. 2024-1-PL01-KA131-HED-000201578-1. The physical mobility was preceded by a compulsory virtual component, held between 11 and 20 June 2026, including an online meeting via Microsoft Teams.

The programme was coordinated by the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa in cooperation with partner institutions: Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek from Croatia, Kauno Kolegija from Lithuania, “1 Decembrie 1918” University of Alba Iulia from Romania, and Hasan Kalyoncu Üniversitesi from Turkey. BIP brought together 28 students, including 18 students from partner universities in Romania, Turkey, Lithuania and Croatia, as well as 10 students from the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa, Poland.

This was the third edition of the storytelling and communication programme, but the first one organised in the Blended Intensive Programme format. The course was delivered by experienced lecturers and practitioners from Great Britain, who have cooperated with the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa for many years: Dr Alastair K. Daniel and Dr Julie Wharton. Dr Daniel is a performance storyteller, researcher and independent scholar whose work explores oral storytelling, narrative and communication in educational contexts. Dr Wharton is an educator and specialist in special educational needs, inclusion and teacher development, with extensive experience in schools, higher education and external examining.

During the two-week physical mobility, students took part in workshops, practical classes, open lectures and integration activities. The programme combined storytelling, drama, voice work, movement, expression and interpersonal communication, presenting language as a tool for building relationships, cooperation and creative action.

The programme concluded with final group presentations and a closing ceremony combined with the award of certificates. Participation in the BIP gave students an opportunity to develop their linguistic, communication, intercultural and social competences in a practical, creative and international environment.
