New Year, New Opportunities. Ceremonial Inauguration of the Academic Year 2025/26 at the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa
On October 10, 2025, at Collegium Polytechnicum, the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa officially inaugurated the new academic year 2025/2026. Following academic tradition, after the flag ceremony and the national anthem, His Magnificence Rector Dr. Eng. Mariusz Kołosowski, Prof. PANS, welcomed guests, staff, and students. The event was attended by MPs, regional and local authorities, representatives of higher education institutions, and numerous social, cultural, and business organizations. The ceremony included the Rector’s address, matriculation of first-year students, speeches by guests and student representatives, and an inaugural lecture by Prof. Andrzej Misiuk titled “Dilemmas of Internal Security Policy.” The musical setting was provided by students of the Jazz Department, performing Gaude Mater Polonia and Gaudeamus Igitur.
Rector Kołosowski noted that the new academic year begins with 2,000 students across 25 programs in seven faculties, including 900 freshmen. Medical studies attracted the highest competition, with up to three candidates per place. He emphasized the Academy’s strong regional ties and responsiveness to labor market needs. UAS in Nysa launched a new program in Applied Linguistics, with further innovative fields planned. The Rector highlighted the institution’s mission to prepare graduates for real-world challenges through modernized curricula reflecting technological progress, AI development, and sustainability principles.
The Academy remains active in research—organizing four scientific conferences (three international) and running 14 research grants. Students engage in 30 scientific circles contributing to regional life. Over 100 partnership agreements with companies and local governments support internships, projects, and scholarships. International cooperation is expanding—PANS collaborates with 150 universities in 50 countries through Erasmus+, sending over 80 students abroad and hosting 130 international visitors last year. Students achieved global recognition, including participation in the Innovation Challenge in New York and a summer school in Mexico.
The Rector also mentioned social and educational initiatives such as the Nysa Science Festival, Akademia Technika, Akademia_CYBER.MIL, and ecological projects promoting sustainable development. PANS supports lifelong learning through the Nysa Young Explorer Academy and regional Universities of the Third Age. The university also excels in sports—ranking second among public vocational universities in the Polish Academic Championships.
Major investments include modernized laboratories, sports facilities, and the new Student Activity Center funded with over 5 million PLN. Despite last year’s flood, the institution rebuilt its infrastructure with resilience and innovation.
Closing his speech, the Rector thanked the academic community for their dedication and welcomed new students:
“Use every opportunity the Academy offers. Education always matters—it enriches not only your career but also your mind and spirit.”
Quod bonum, felix, faustum, fortunatumque sit – may this academic year be happy, prosperous, and successful.
