Visit of the Fulbright Program Coordinator in Nysa
On December 6, 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting Ms. Aleksandra Braumańska, a representative of the Polish-U.S. Fulbright Commission, in Nysa. The primary mission of the Commission is to administer the Fulbright Program in Poland. The Fulbright Program is the largest academic and cultural exchange program of the United States. Connections made during a scholarship in the U.S. and materials gathered during research at American universities often lead to scholarly publications.
At the Fulbright Commission, Ms. Aleksandra Braumańska serves as Senior Specialist for Events and the ETA Program (Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program). In practice, these are 9-month scholarships for students and graduates of U.S. universities. During their stay in Poland, the grantees teach English classes at Polish higher education institutions. The Fulbright Commission places the grantees in institutions that have expressed interest in hosting candidates and have been selected through an open competition. The application for hosting an ETA in Nysa was submitted by Dr. Agnieszka Kaczmarek.
The purpose of Ms. Braumańska's visit to PANS (State Academy of Applied Sciences in Nysa) was to evaluate the workplace and residence of Ms. Lane Johansen, who has been residing in Nysa since October 2024 as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant. She teaches English conversation and writing skills to students of philology. During the visit, Ms. Braumańska and Ms. Johansen met with Prof. Mariusz Kołosowski, Rector of PANS in Nysa; Prof. Monika Witt, Dean of the Department of Modern Languages; and Vice Dean, Dr. Małgorzata Kamińska, to summarize Ms. Johansen’s stay at the university so far and outline plans for the next semester. Visiting the International Cooperation Office, Ms. Braumańska also met with Ms. Anna Opałka, who introduced our guest to the projects planned by our university in the near future. Ms. Lane Johansen is supervised by Mr. Sebastian Zatylny, while Ms. Dagmara Bojda from the International Cooperation Office serves as her Fulbright Buddy.
In summarizing Ms. Braumańska's visit, we look forward to further strengthening cooperation between the Fulbright Commission and PANS in Nysa. We wish Ms. Lane Johansen continued success during her stay in Poland and thank her for the engaging classes she has, so far, conducted during the winter semester for English philology students at PANS.
