Summary of the conference 'Motor Skills in Physical Activity'

On 3-4 June this year, the first international scientific and didactic conference on motor skills in physical activity entitled: “Motor Skills in Physical Activity” was held at the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa. Speakers included prominent specialists, theoreticians, and practitioners from Poland and abroad.

The theoretical and workshop presentation of issues was aimed at introducing the participant of the event to contemporary research thought in the area of human motricity in its broadest sense. The conference was prepared with physical education teachers, coaches, and instructors of various sports disciplines, as well as people involved in physical recreation in mind.

The idea to organize the conference was born in October last year when our staff attended as guests a conference at the University of Physical Education and Sport in Gdańsk. There we thought that we could organize a similar event at our university. Especially as we have exceptionally good conditions for it’ explains PhD Ewa Szura, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Physical Culture at the UAS in Nysa and chairperson of the conference organising committee.

As recognized by the Rector of the UAS Prof. Przemysław Malinowski, research in the field of physical culture and sport has been boosted by the arrival at the Nysa university of PhD Tomasz Gabryś, Prof. The researcher joined the faculty in October last year. Professor Tomasz Gabryś makes no secret of the fact that he wanted to show the potential in Nysa’s academic team dealing with physical culture and sport.

The first signal that it could, was the appearance of very-high scoring international publication, in the creation of which our Vice-Dean had a hand’ argues Prof. Tomasz Gabryś.

Another activity was the organisation of last week’s scientific conference “Motor Skills in Physical Activity” with the participation of recognized specialists, theoreticians, and practitioners.

We wanted people to come to Nysa whose appearances or contacts are sought after by other centres’ says Prof. Gabryś. ‘We have a sports director of the Polish Basketball Federation, an outstanding coach working abroad for many years, leading teams in Qatar, among others. After all, we have a coach who led the Polish national team during the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Other speakers included Zuzanna Czyżnielewska, formerly a player on the first Polish women’s national volleyball team and currently a physiotherapist for the national team. She works with academic teams in the USA on a daily basis. She flew to Poland especially for the conference in Nysa. Researchers from the Czech Republic: PhD Jaromil Votik and PhD Ledislav Cepicka participated in the event. Among those leading the workshop was MA Łukasz Kabelis-Szostakowski, a coach of participants in the Olympic Games, World Championships and Europe Championships in various disciplines. We were also honoured by the presence of Professor Michał Wilk, who works on a daily basis with the Academy of Physical Education in Katowice and Charles University in Prague. An outstanding scientist and trainer. He presented an innovative approach to the methodology of shaping muscle strength based on an analysis of the speed of performed movements using specialised equipment, which was masterfully demonstrated in the practical part. These were just some of the specialists sharing their experiences during the conference.

Since 2016, the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa has been educating in the area of physical culture in the innovative and unique in the country course of psychophysical human formation. Within the faculty, we have two specialisations – personal trainer and motor preparation trainer. The entire three-year training cycle covers three leading themes – nutrition, including nutrition and supplementation in sport, physical activities, and psychology. We make every effort to equip students with additional competences, i.e., those that go beyond the curriculum. To this end, we use funds from ministerial projects for additional training, workshops, or study visits in prestigious, industry-related locations.

We give our students the competence to work with individual clients. They can work as motor preparation trainers for league teams in various sports. They are also ready to work individually with athletes. For a while, this was a niche profession. As motor preparation trainers in team games, coaches from abroad usually worked. Now this has changed. We can boast that the motor preparation trainer in the plus league team Stal Nysa is our graduate Łukasz Kowalski. We educate well, we arouse interest in the market, and we are happy about that’ argues PhD Roman Palacz, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Physical Culture.
