Lane Johansen, a Fulbright Scholar, has joined the team of the Department of Neophilology at the University of Applied Sciences for the 2024/2025
We are very pleased to announce that Lane Johansen, a Fulbright Scholar, has joined the team of the Department of Neophilology at the National Academy of Applied Sciences for the 2024/2025 academic year. Lane Johansen is a graduate of Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Russian Studies and International Relations, and Central European University in Vienna, where she earned a master's degree in Nationalism Studies. Her stay on the Fulbright scholarship is not her first visit to Poland, as last year she volunteered for four months in Przemyśl, where she helped refugees from Ukraine on behalf of the Kharkiv and Przemyśl Project (KHARPP).
At our university, Ms. Johansen will work with male and female students of English philology, teaching conversation and writing in English. On October 7, Ms. Johansen met with Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Development Dr. Eng. Piotr Chwastyk, a professor at the university, who congratulated the Fulbrighter on winning the scholarship and welcomed her to Nysa Alma Mater.
Another meeting took place in the International Cooperation Office, where Ms. Anna Opalka, MA, introduced Ms. Johansen to the offer of our university, discussing additional activities and projects implemented by PANS in Poland and abroad, thus offering other opportunities for professional development during the scholarship. In addition, Ms. Johansen participated in the Adaptation Day for incoming students from abroad. On October 11, the scholarship holder took part in the official inauguration of the academic year, after which she met with Dr. Monika Witt, Dean of the Faculty of Neophilology.
Throughout Ms. Johansen's stay in Poland, Sebastian Zatylny, MA, will act as her mentor and academic supervisor. In preparation for the grantee's reception in Nysa, he took part in training sessions that the Fulbright Commission organized in Warsaw. The role of Fulbright Buddy will be performed by Dagmara Bojda, MA, from the Office of International Cooperation, who will help Ms. Johansen with the day-to-day affairs of daily life in Nysa. The application for a Fulbright Program scholar was submitted by Dr. Agnieszka Kaczmarek - also a Fulbrighter.
The Fulbright Program is an international scholarship program that was created in 1946 at the initiative of U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright. Its purpose is to promote cultural and scientific exchange between the United States and other countries by enabling students, scholars, and professionals to pursue research, study, or teach abroad. The Fulbright program operates in more than 160 countries around the world and is one of the most prestigious programs of its kind. On behalf of the entire academic community, we wish Ms. Lane Johansen a wonderful and unforgettable stay in Nysa!
