15-17.06.2023 9th International Workshop on UI GreenMetric World University Rankings (IWGM 2023)
From 15 to 17.06.2023, an international workshop of the UI GreenMetric network was held at the Universidade do Minho , attended by Dr Eng. Piotr Woźniak, JMR Plenipotentiary for the Integrated Management System, and Anna Opałka, M.Sc., Head of the External Relations Department of University of Applied Sciences in Nysa.
Representatives of UAS in Nysa prepared an article entitled: "University of Applied Sciences in Nysa in the context of its sustainable development strategy implementation", which will be published in the post-conference publication "Innovation, Impact, and Future Direction of Sustainable Universities" as well as digitally on the website http://greenmetric.ui.ac.id, and during the workshop they presented the impact of environmental, energy and quality systems on the development of universities on the example of their own institution. In addition, the delegation also participated in an extensive programme of workshops and an award ceremony for the ranking leaders.
During the event, the invited universities presented their innovative and best practices on the latest challenges in green management on their campuses related to infrastructure, energy, waste, water, transport, education and research.
UI GreenMetric is strongly committed to creating a global platform of universities around the world that strive to make their graduates active players in addressing the environmental challenges facing the world today. In line with the principle of mutual cooperation and sharing of experiences, UI GreenMetric aims to raise awareness and knowledge on sustainability issues.
The aim of the workshop was primarily to share experiences of good practices in the field of sustainability and to deepen cooperation within the network, which now includes 1,050 Universities worldwide. The workshop was also an excellent opportunity to establish new contacts with universities which, like Nysa's Alma Mater, have a clear sustainability orientation in their management and education strategies.
The University of Applied Sciences in Nysa entered the Green Metrix ranking in 2022 for the first time, taking 5th place among universities in Poland ahead of such universities as the Medical University in Wrocław or the Tadeusz Kościuszko Kraków University of Technology. It should also be noted that the University is the only one in Poland and few in the world to have simultaneously implemented an integrated quality, environmental and energy management system based on ISO 9001 ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standards.
