Conducted the inaugural Speech on November 27, 2024 in frames of the project “The Economic Issues in the International Context (EIIC)”. Project was officially inaugurated at the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida (UAS Mittweida), Germany, marking a significant step in the ongoing internationalization of German universities. Dr. Pradeep Kumar, an Adjunct/Assistant Professor at the faculty of philology, University of Applied Sciences in Nysa, Poland, and the Project Leader of the EIIC, delivered an impactful inaugural speech that set the tone for the year-long project. The project, funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), is designed to foster cross-border academic cooperation and address global economic issues through a partnership between Germany, Poland, and India.
The EIIC Project: A Path to Internationalization
The EIIC initiative, funded for the 2024-2025 academic year, aims to enhance the international profile of German universities by fostering global academic networks and improving cooperation with institutions abroad. Dr. Kumar, in his role as the Visiting Professor for International Entrepreneurship and Economics at UAS Mittweida, provided an overview of the project’s vision, which includes:
- Establishing cosmopolitan universities in Germany
- Enhancing international exchange and cooperation between universities, particularly focusing on strengthening the international dimension of university education
The project is intended to build sustainable international relationships between universities in Germany, Poland, and India, aiming to share knowledge, resources, and academic expertise to address global economic challenges. The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. rer. oec. Serge Velesco, Educational Dean Cooperation degree programs at the faculty of Industrial Engineering, and EIIC Project supervisor, and welcomed by Prof. Dr. rer. oec. Volker Tolkmitt, Rector UAS Mittweida, and Prof. Dr. rer. oec. Johannes N. Stelling, Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering along with other administrative authorities.
Key Themes of Dr. Kumar’s Speech
In his speech, Dr. Kumar explored the role of education in fostering social and economic development across nations. The central theme of his address was that educational development is crucial for accelerating social and economic progress and that this goal can only be achieved through cross-border academic collaboration. Drawing on the experiences of Poland, India, and Germany, he discussed how these countries can work together to address shared economic challenges through evidence-based research and innovative solutions.
Dr. Kumar stressed that the economic realities of globalization present both opportunities and challenges for universities, particularly in terms of economic sustainability, resource allocation, and maintaining academic excellence in an increasingly competitive environment.
“The integration of global academic networks is not only a catalyst for innovation, but it also provides universities with the opportunity to address pressing economic issues on a larger scale. Through international collaboration, universities can tackle economic disparities, share best practices, and ensure that higher education remains accessible and relevant in an ever-evolving global economy,” he remarked.
Looking to the Future: Expanding the Network
The EIIC project also plans to expand its network of academic partners over time, bringing in universities from Asia, North America, and Africa. This expansion will allow the project to incorporate a broader range of global perspectives on economic issues and ensure that the research and solutions generated are truly international in scope.
Dr. Kumar emphasized the importance of real-world experience for students, stating that the project will provide students with opportunities to work on real-world projects and engage in internships with international organizations, businesses, and policymakers. This approach will help students gain hands-on experience in addressing economic challenges and developing practical solutions.
Through the leadership of Dr. Pradeep Kumar and the support of institutions, the EIIC initiative is set to make a meaningful contribution to higher education and economic development on a global scale.
We are looking forward to giving strength to our partnership and developing more projects through institutional cooperation!
