Students Designed an Architectural Installation to Revitalise Public Spaces in Nysa and Opole

On 8–9 May 2026, the 7th edition of the Architect Challenge Day took place at the Architecture programme of the Faculty of Technical Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa. This student architectural competition brought together young designers from the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa and the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the Opole University of Technology. The event was held under the auspices of the Opole Regional Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland as part of the Polish Architecture Congress 2026. The task for participants, divided into six teams, was to design a pavilion with a modular wooden structure, guided by the idea of community cooperation in the creation and use of public space. The projects were developed in an intensive workshop-based working format, which required not only creativity but also the ability to make quick decisions and work effectively in teams.

From the submitted proposals, the project that best responded to the needs of a flexible, accessible, and adaptable urban space was selected. The winning concept will be implemented and presented to residents in a special form during the celebrations of World Architecture Day on 19 June 2026 at the Market Square in Nysa. At that moment, the student project will move from concept to a real, functioning installation in the city centre. Congratulations are extended to the authors of the winning concept: Anna Radzioch, Agnieszka Zielińska, Klaudiusz Janik, Marlena Dyrek, Marta Warzecha, Mateusz Palutkiewicz, Monika Biliczak, Łukasz Zieliński, Dorota Jezierska, Sandra Tokarska, Weronika Kowalik. The project was supervised by Agata Pięt, Dr. Eng. Arch., and. Michał Kaczmarzyk, MSc. Eng. Arch., academic staff members of the University of Applied Sciences in Nysa.
