School visits performed by Erasmus+ students and Fulbright Scholar Alyssa Sharp in summer semester 2024

Thanks to the intercultural opportunities provided by the International Cooperation Office, our Erasmus+ students and a teacher from the Fulbright Program participated in school visits where they shared information about their countries and cultures with different groups of students of diverse ages. Our Erasmus+ students, Patricia Alfayé and Carolina Tártalo from the University of Zaragoza in Spain, and Isabella Salazar from CETYS University in Mexico, visited the primary school in Bogdanowice on March 22nd. They were warmly welcomed by the principal, Mrs. Aleksandra Bobkier, and our alumni teacher, Ms. Kinga Wojdyła. They spent a wonderful day visiting historical and emblematic buildings in the area, such as the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Głubczyce and the Town Hall. Afterwards, they participated in an assembly which concluded their celebration of World Day for Cultural Diversity.

Students from 4th to 8th grade learned about Spanish gastronomy, the royal family, and major festivities, as well as the diversity, famous sports, and values that make up Mexican culture. “It was an amazing experience to share information about my home country with the students, and I hope this encourages them to consider traveling or studying abroad in the future! I'm really happy and thankful for this opportunity; it made me feel a little less homesick,” said Isabella Salazar.

Another visit was organized to the Carolinum High School in Nysa during the celebration of the Foreign Language Culture Days. During the visit, Shahd Mustafa and Muntaha Ahmed from South Valley University, Quena in Egipt introduced the school pupils to the culture of their country, talked about the language, religion and regional cuisine.

“It was one the best and sweetest experiences I've ever had, I liked the school architecture, teachers were amazing and very sweet to me and to their students which makes the learning process more easy and fun, the library was amazing and I loved the hidden history stories about it, students were so active, sweet and curious about other cultures, they also had a great background about the ancient Egyptian history, at the end we played some fun games and took some photos together which will always be saved in my heart”, Shahd Mustafa.

As well, Ms. Alyssa Sharp, a Fulbright Programme Scholar at the UAS in Nysa and Ohio State University in USA Graduate, has visited different schools such as Diecezjalna Szkoła Podstawowa i Diecezjalne Liceum Humanistyczne, w Nysie, Zepół Szkolno-Przedszkolny w Białej Nyskiej and Carolinum High School, were she shared with the students a knowledge about the United States and its regional culture, as well about her university experience. “I shared my own experience going to The Ohio State University and growing up in Ohio. I would introduce students to different regions identities, cultural practices, and language. I would give students time to ask my any questions they had about the U.S. as well”. These are the kind of opportunities that fosters the exchange of ideas and learning, imparting in students a desire to learn more about other cultures and appreciate their beauty.
